JOHN CHAPTER 1 NOTES

Greeting in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ whose name is above all names!  Grace and Peace be with you all!
The book of John is set apart from the other synoptic gospels in that he writes specifically about the deity of Christ.
Just for point of reference, there were two people in the Bible that were called “beloved”, Daniel and John.  What Daniel started John, through Jesus, gave clarity and understanding.  It  was also who Jesus said: In John 19: 25-7

25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
Also, look at John 13: 23-25 and note:

23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?

Who, other than John, could speak of the Deity of Jesus, but John.

The Deity of Jesus Christ
John 1:1-2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.

         Reference John 10:30 / Hebrews 1: 5-13

John 10:30
30 I and my Father are one.

Hebrews 1: 5-13
For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
1.    And again, concerning the Word,
Revelations 19:13

13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

2.   And, the Word was with God,
John 17:5
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

3.   And the Word Was God.
John 5:20
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

John 1:3-5

All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.
Colossians 1: 16-17 tells us that:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
1.  And Ephesians 3:9
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

2.  And Hebrews 1:2
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

In him was life;and the lifewas the light of men.
1.   Look at John 3:15
15   That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

2.  Look at Matthew 7:13-14

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and                                     few there be that find it.
3.  Look at Psalms 36:9
4.    For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 3:19 tells us:
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
